McGuire Air Force Base (AFB) is a United States Air Force Base located in parts of New Hanover Township, Pemberton Township, and Springfield Township, in Burlington County, (South) New Jersey. It is also a census-designated place, and as of the United States 2000 Census, the base population was 6,478. (Source: Wikipedia)

From its beginnings in 1937 as a single dirt-strip runway with a handful of buildings, that served a support role to adjacent Fort Dix. The field was expanded during World War II and was reassigned to the Air Force in 1949. McGuire Air Force Base today is home to the 305th Air Mobility Wing, a key installation of the Air Mobility Command, who's motto is, "Can Do." There are several other support units on base. Many hundreds of thousands of Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps personnel have left the United States for overseas locations from McGuire AFB.

The base is named in honor of the late Major Thomas B. McGuire, Jr., of Ridgewood, N.J., a Medal of Honor recipient who was the second leading air ace in World War II before being killed in action in January 1945. He was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously
